Me and Japanese architecture. Part 1

What architecture am I into? I got asked this question recently and although completely reasonable, I was in a way kind of surprised by it and felt very put on the spot. I mentioned contemporary architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright. Perhaps that seems a little predictable, I don’t know. But on the other hand, I do like both of those things. Truly, I like most architecture, and as a person I never really have had a true favourite.

For me Japanese architecture was always an interest, but it grew to my attention when I actually visited the place. In 2012, at the age of 17 I embarked on a home stay trip to Japan and much to my dismay, my hosts (who were lovely) didn’t speak any english. I turned up to face a traditional Japanese home, futons and all and didn’t even know how to wash properly! I’ve never really talked about my experiences there (other than to my friends and family….quite extensively…sorry!) and thought I would create a small series to coincide with my recent essays and research.

Before I delve into specific design details, I thought I would just post a few of my images of areas and buildings that I liked.
